QUARTER 2 ASSESSMENTS (11/12/19 - 1/31/20)

  1. "Composing Functions, Determining Inverse Functions" (Actual Test Date: 11/7/19) -- (Note: Even though this test was actually given during the first quarter, it is being counted among second quarter test grades.) -- Students must be able to operate with composite functions, determine inverse functions, understand characteristics of inverse functions, and use composition of functions to prove that a pair of functions are inverses of each other. (Test Return Date: 11/13/19 or 11/14/19)

  2. "Function Transformations, Equations with Radicals" (11/14/19) -- Students must be able to transform functions that are defined by equations or defined by graphs. Students must be able to solve equations with radicals and recognize/reject extraneous solutions. This test was originally graded out of 76 points. However, the grade is being weighted with a multiplication factor of 0.658 so that it will have the same value as a 50 point test in the 2nd quarter average. (Test Return Date: 11/21/19)

  3. "HW Completion" (11/12/19 - 11/22/19) -- Homework is assigned nearly every day. This homework grade is a two-week accumulation of points earned during frequent spot checks. On days that homework is checked, an assignment that has been completed in its entirety, has appropriate work shown, and has been presented on time will be considered complete and receive full credit. Homework assignments that are incomplete or that are completed one day late will receive only partial credit. This homework grade is based on completion, not accuracy. Please remember that it is the responsibility of absentees to present their work. Barring extraordinary circumstances, absentees who neglect to present their make-up homework upon their return will not receive credit.

  4. "Properties of Polynomial Functions" (11/26/19) -- Students must be able to identify various characteristics of polynomial functions. (This includes determining average rate of change, identifying increasing/decreasing intervals, characterizing a function as even, odd, or neither even nor odd, recognizing periodicity, describing end behavior, etc.) Students must be able to use and apply long division, synthetic division, and the factor/remainder theorems. The test grade given is based on a 40 point total, but the test's weight is 1.25. It is worth as much as a 50 point assessment in the marking period's point total. (Test Return Date: 12/6/19)

  5. "HW Completion" (11/25/19 - 12/6/19) -- See previous description of HW Completion.

  6. "Rational Expressions" (12/13/19) -- Students must be able to simplify, add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions. Students must be able to simplify complex fractions. Students must be able to solve equations/inequalities that contain rational expressions. (Test Return Date: 12/19/19)

  7. "Common Assessment for Algebra 2 (aka Midterm Exam)" (12/20/19) -- Students must be able to answer a variety of questions based on topics presented during this course.

  8. "HW Completion" (12/9/19 - 12/23/19) -- See previous description of HW Completion.

  9. "Operating with Radicals & Exponents" (Test Opens on 12/19/19, Test Due at 11:59 PM on 12/23/19) -- Students must be able to simplify expressions involving rational exponents, negative exponents, and radicals. (Test Return Date: 1/5/20)

  10. "Exponential Functions" (1/10/20) -- Students must be able to graph exponential functions and know their characteristics, use and apply exponential regression, solve equations with exponents by finding common bases, solve equations with exponents graphically, and apply the compound interest formula to banking problems. (Test Return Date: 1/17/20)

  11. "HW Completion" (1/6/20 - 1/17/20) -- See previous description of HW Completion.

  12. "Logarithms, Common Logarithms, and Natural Logarithms" (1/22/20) -- Students must be able to graph logarithmic functions and know their characteristics, simplify expressions with logarithms, use logarithms to solve exponential equations, know the compound interest formula and apply it to banking problems, and solve logarithmic equations by rewriting in exponential form. (Test Return Date: 1/24/20)

  13. "HW Completion" (1/21/20 - 1/31/20) -- See previous description of HW Completion.
