NKY Health encourages (but does not require) all staff to engage in a regular program of exercise and health improvement (unless existing health related conditions make such a program inadvisable).
How Physical Activity is Encouraged
The existing Alternative Work Schedule policy allows staff, with supervisory approval, to be able to flex their schedules to accommodate incorporating exercise and still work their normal shift hours.
In the course of meetings lasting more than 1 hour, staff is encouraged, but not required to incorporate short stretch breaks for every 60 minutes of meeting time. Staff is encouraged, but not required, to limit meetings to 2 hours when possible.
Staff is encouraged to take short walks or engage in other physical activity during their breaks.
Staff is encouraged to participate in work-sponsored physical activity opportunities offered through the NKY Health worksite wellness program.
Indoor Space and Physical Environment
Use of space for wellness activities, including exercise, in NKY Health office space is permissible and encouraged.
Permission to use multipurpose rooms (i.e., meeting rooms) for a staff wellness or fitness activity may be obtained through the normal scheduling process currently in place in each building. If an urgent business need for the room should arise, arrangements may need to be made for relocating. Staff is encouraged to work out any conflicts together in a mutually agreeable way.
Environmental accommodations for food preparation and storage (i.e., sinks, refrigerators, microwaves) are made available to support staff in bringing healthy lunches and snacks to work.
Future capital improvements to the inside of buildings or changes to the physical environment of NKY Health's buildings Health will consider the incorporation of wellness activities and uses of the space for wellness activities whenever possible and as budget allows.
Outdoor Space and Physical Environment
Use of outdoor space for wellness activities, including exercise, at NKY Health's property is permissible and encouraged.
Low trafficked parking lots, sidewalks and yard space around the building may be used on a temporary basis without permission, for activities such as walking and other physical activity.
Permission to use designated outdoor space on NKY Health property for a permanent wellness or fitness activity must be obtained from the District Director of Health via the normal chain-of-command.
Future Improvements or changes to the physical environment of the outside of NKY Health buildings must consider the incorporation of wellness activities and include uses of the space for wellness activities whenever possible.
