CIDRS Insertion
Students watched as CIDRS were inserted into the sheep. CIDRS is a device that is used to control breeding schedules.
2 of our Grade 9's came out to the LDAA Golf Tournament in Wetaskiwin. They played their hearts out in the cold weather.
In Ranch Skills, we learned how to evaluate animals and then had an auction. Some students even tried their hand at auctioneering.

It was wonderful day, with beautiful weather, to get out and do some reading in the barnyard.
Power of Perspective
Students began an activity in which they chose a spot in the barnyard to draw a picture of what they saw from that vantage point. They will then describe what they saw in writing. Students will then switch spots with a partner, draw and write about that new vantage point. They will then compare drawings/writings and see how similar or different their individual perspectives were.
Field Sports
The weather has been cooperating nicely with our outdoor options. In the Field Sports option, students switched from Flag Football to Slow Pitch.
Three Sisters Garden
Students did some weeding of the Three Sisters Garden that was planted by last year's grade 9 students. The garden did not produce much, hopefully the weather will cooperate more next year.
Ecosystem in a Jar
In Science, students created an ecosystem in a jar. The jar consisted of rocks, soil, decomposers and plants. They will observe it over the coming weeks and document their observations.
Our last week of golf practice before we head to our first tournament of the school year.
In Social, we learned about all the different groupsw of people that migrated to Canada and why they would want to leave their country.
We went to the driving range for golf practice and a few 9's came out to practice.
We took our learning outside to change the environment and learnt in the trees.

Students worked on writing a strong paragraph about the biological diversity observations they made.

In Ranch Skills, we talked about different things to look for that can create unsafe situations on the farm.
At the end of Ranch Skills, we took out the roping dummies and practiced our skills.

Grade 9 students have been doing chores until Mrs. Besler has completed interviews and jobs have been filled.
Tower Building
Junior High students were in their Herds, competing to see who could build the tallest, sturdiest tower.
