This week we headed out to the barnyard to continue our work on odd-even!
We have been doing a few different experiments in our Plants for Food & Fibre unit including growing beans in the window and lettuce seeds in different growing conditions.
Students hit the barnyard to paint a scene... this scene was then used to make a creative writing piece.... to learn more, check out our charter lessons page.
This week we learned about leaves.... did some hands on work with a dicotomus key and sampled some lettuce that spent some time in salty & sugary water.
4 of our grade 7's had the opportunity to go play in the LDAA golf tournament in Wetaskiwin this week. Fun was had by all!
A handful of 7's have been busy creating some beautiful pieces in leatherwork.... I can't wait to see thier belts in a couple weeks.
We practiced our evaluation of animals while partaking in an auction. Some of the students tried their hand at auctioneer too.
We had a debate in Social about whether or not each group wanted to join confederation or not.

While we were learning our topics in Social class, the chicks were right there with us learning about the topics too.

In Ranch Skills, we talked about different things to look for that can create unsafe situations on the farm.
At the end of Ranch Skills, we took out the roping dummies and practiced our skills.
With so many new faces this year, Mrs. Besler took us on a full tour of the barnyard, complete with explinations of what chores entail. We may have also given some TLC to the new baby chicks!
The grade 7's tried their hand at a number of hands on activiites such as the 'Tower of Terror'.
