Every Monday, Grade 4 students complete a Quick Write, and this week we focused on Terry Fox! We learned more about Terry and explored what courage meant to him. His determination, strength, and refusal to give up, even when things became incredibly difficult, gave us lots to think and write about. Our class had SO many questions about Terry that weren’t answered in the videos we watched, so we became researchers!
In the afternoon, we took part in the Terry Fox run!
Grade 4 honoured National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by learning about residential schools and the experiences of Indigenous children and families. Students created orange rocks, each carrying a special meaning, and placed them throughout our schoolyard as a lasting reminder to “showcase a piece of orange every day.

A highlight of our week - pickling carrots! A huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers and, of course, Chef Jeff, who helped make the process so easy and fun!
The students added their spices, garlic, dill, and fresh carrots before pouring in the brine. They were so excited to take their jars home and put them in the fridge to enjoy after about a week of pickling.
We were so lucky to have Tiana Lie-Hamilton join us and teach the students how to create their very own family-inspired feather mosaics! The students loved designing their own pieces and making meaningful connections to their families and friends along the way. Each mosaic was so unique and beautiful.
This week, we took a deep dive into sheep handling! The students had the opportunity to act like sheep and go through our handling system, giving them a hands-on look at how sheep are safely moved and handled. They had lots of questions about the breeding process, especially as CIDRs were inserted this week. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and hear so many thoughtful questions as they learned more about the process!
The students loved learning how to transfer images using only crayons! Each student chose their own Disney character, learned about shading and blending techniques, and then coloured their completed image before adding a creative background. There were lots of, “This is my favourite art project!” comments throughout the afternoon.
We had so many questions about Jackson in Grade 4! This week Mrs.Besler joined our classroom to talk all things Donkeys! After our lesson, it was time to jounral what we learned.
We spent an afternoon with the Grade 3 class harvesting our carrots! They were a little tricky to pull out of the ground this year, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. After harvesting, we washed our carrots and got them ready for pickling.!
In Science, we’ve been learning all about the rock cycle, and what better way to explore it than with chocolate! Students started by creating “sediment” using chocolate shavings, then pressed them together to form a “rock.” Next, we added heat to melt the chocolate and watched as it cooled and hardened, ready to begin the cycle all over again!
On Friday afternoon we completed a directed draw inspired by Yayoi Kusama. We drew out our pumpkins and placed our dots strategically on our pumpkins! After we coloured them in and some students chose to add a background to make their pumpkins pop!

One of our favourite things in Grade 4 is meeting with Mrs. Besler each week to dive into student interests in the barnyard! This week, we asked lots of questions, learned why we are so lucky to have a farm, and why donkey ears are so big! Afterward, we spent time with the animals and helped weed our carrots.
To start off our portfolio, students took their first day of school photos!
On our first day we read the book "First Day Jitters" and talked about how we all felt about our first day. To complete our read aloud, we made a our jitter juice - lemonade! We had to squeeze the lemons for juice, add in sugar and then top it off with water. The sticky hands were worth it!
New this year we have fun STEM bins in each classroom! Any free moment has been full of creating and building!
