Grade 7 - 9 Research Project
SYNOPSIS
Through a partnership with Olds College, junior high students learned how to complete a research project which dealt with an agricultural related topic.
Step 1 - Field trip to Olds College to meet with a researcher who would mentor them through the initial project.
Step 2 - Groups chose a topic and planned out their project.
Step 3 - Completed project.
Step 4 - Presented project to classmates and guests.
Step 5 - Completed two more research projects throughout the rest of the year.
CHARTER CONNECTION
Goal #1 - Research projects increased student's agricultural literacy and promoted agriculture.
Goal #2 - Students had to use problem solving skills to determine what topic they were going to research, how they were going to collect their data, how they would compile it and then how they would present it.
Goal #3 - Students had an overall goal and outcome that they wanted to achieve and they had to plan accordingly and follow a timeline.
Goal #4 - Students demonstrated strong leadership skills in time management, work habits and in the way they interacted with their partners and people they interacted with when collecting their data. They also worked on their public speaking skills.

Grade 7 - 9 Entrepreneurial Project
SYNOPSIS
Students were given the task to create a product, that was related to the Charter in some way, develop it by creating a business plan and then sell it at a public Winter Market. The objective was to provide students with skills in financial literacy, business planning and goal setting.
Step 1 - Come up with an idea and identify how it is related to the Charter.
Step 2 - Complete business plan (set goals, what materials are needed, what will the cost of each individual item be, when will I make my product, how much time will be needed, business name, storefront set up, etc. )
Step 3 - Create the product.
Step 4 - Plan and create how you will display them.
Step 5 - Sell product at Winter Fair.

Goal #2 - Students had to use problem solving skills to complete this product. At times they needed to adapt and change the plan, show resiliency when things didn't go well and use critical thinking when it came to choosing their product and deciding the price of it.
Goal #3 - Students had an overall goal and outcome that they wanted to achieve and they had to plan accordingly.
Goal #4 - Students demonstrated strong leadership skills in time management, work habits and in the way they interacted with their customers on the day of the market.
