Many of you will be hosting conversation tables this academic year. Conversation tables are informal gatherings where learners and native speakers can work together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere! Conversation tables are presentations and discussions about components of your culture or activities for practicing the language you are teaching.
Once you arrive on campus, contact your department supervisor to plan conversation tables for your language. FLTAs with language departments on campus include: Arabic, Chinese, German, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian. Your departments typically provide any food, snacks, games, or materials needed for activities.
You or your department will need to notify the CSLC with the following information at the start of each semester so we can add them to our website and promotional materials:
Conversation Table meeting days, times, and locations
Any topics/special events (e.g. are you playing a game, having coffee, etc. anything that will attract students)
Any images you wish to use for the digital and print flyers for the event. If you have no preferred images, the CSLC Media Team will use more generic images to advertise the events.
LCTL (less commonly taught languages) FLTAs don't host language tables, but will need to be involved with CSLC events since the CSLC is their "department" of sorts. This could be assisting with workshops, showing up to take pictures/do instagram takeovers, etc.
