Spider-Man Homecoming Movie Review
By: Michael Adams
With Spider-Man having been introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, many fans of the character were anticipating his eventual solo movie. After only a year after his introduction, Spider-Man Homecoming was put into theaters. Many people enjoyed this movie quite well, shown by the release of two more movies released after, and three more solo movies for Spider-Man confirmed to be in Tom Holland’s contract.
After the fight with Captain America’s team in Germany, Peter Parker returned to New York. This is where he lives with his aunt, May Parker. He returns to school with his best friend Ned, but it is quickly learned that after his trip to Germany with Iron Man, Peter quit all school activities other than Academic Decathlon. Hearing how Peter was struggling to juggle school with being Spider-Man was interesting and what makes him one of the most relatable characters in any superhero movie or comic.
Some of my favorite parts of the movie are where they reference certain villains and comedic moments in the movie. I thought one of the chase scenes was really cool and fun, with props to certain villains like The Shocker, and Aaron Davis (The Prowler). Eventually, during the same chase sequence, The Vulture flew in and grabbed Spider-Man and threw him in a lake. This was where Iron Man first showed up in the movie and rescued him from the lake and told Peter to stay away from The Vulture.
I really liked how they incorporated things from the rest of the MCU into the movie.Like how after the chase, Peter found an alien object, one from the alien objects from The Avengers, which is what the criminals were using in their weapons. Or when it was showing footage from Peter’s mask and it was showing him doing impersonations of the Avengers, like Thor.
One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Peter had to use momentum to break into the Washington Monument, and stop the elevator from falling. The elevator even started to fall with Liz in it, and Peter saves her by webbing her hand.
There were several moments in the movie where it showed just how strong Peter is, such as the elevator scene I just talked about. Then there was the Ferry, after it got cut in half and he held it together for several moments. On the surface it’s not that impressive but if you think about it more, each half of the ship would have been several thousand pounds, and he was able to hold it together. Of course, it wasn’t long before Iron Man saved the day, fixing the ship and saving everyone else in the process. It's revealed that Tony had told the FBI the villains would be there, and Peter showing up ruined the plan. This part just shows that Peter is still just a kid, and that he’s going to make mistakes, but he’ll learn from them.
My favorite part of the movie, overall, has to be the final fight. Peter just trying his hardest to stop The Vulture while trying to save him at the same time in the final scenes of the fight just shows who he is. After everything Vulture did to him, all the bad he had done, Peter wouldn’t let him die, and saved him from his wings that were about to explode. It also calls back to the several times in the movie where Karen, Peter’s suit AI, tried activating “instant kill” and Peter was totally against it. He didn’t want to kill anyone, so it makes sense that he would save the main villain.
The Batman Review

Going in to watching this movie, I wasn’t expecting much. I heard that it was good but to say the least, I was quite skeptical. I mean, Robert Pattinson hasn’t exactly been known to be in that great of movies. I can gladly say, I was wrong. This movie is the best Batman movie I’ve ever watched, and definitely in my top ten movies of all time. That being said, there may be slight spoilers to the movie ahead, so if you want to watch this movie knowing nothing, then I might not read this until after.
I loved how The Riddler was portrayed in this movie. He wasn’t just an outright villain, but at the same time, still had a very chaotic and menacing nature. His riddles were a very good part of the movie, because as they’re asked you can think of the answers yourself. The riddles all led up to the reveal and capture of The Riddler, which isn’t much of a spoiler because you see his capture in one of the trailers. Considering the riddles and who the main villain is, this definitely showed the detective side of Batman, who some call the “World’s Greatest Detective.”
There were appearances of other characters that I didn’t know would be in the movie, that actually played a good role throughout the movie. These appearances included The Penguin and Falcone, as well as a hint to a future villain during one of the final scenes of the movie, but I won’t say who. I also had no idea the kind of role Alfred would play in the movie, and how things would go without the backstory of the Waynes being present, but the way they tackled it was definitely something I enjoyed. Much like how we didn’t need to see the death of Uncle Ben again in the recent Spider-Man movies, I’m glad they decided killing off the Waynes wasn’t necessary to do once more. Technically speaking, they did die, it just wasn’t ever shown.
I also really liked the main character himself, Batman. He wasn’t portrayed the same as he has always been, not in my opinion at least. He didn’t just get over his parents’ deaths while he was still a child. He continued searching for the truth and the way he acts reflects that. He is still vengeful and upset. He doesn’t hold back his punches and lets out his anger. This does, however, change as the movie progresses, and shows a lot of character development.
In the end, I loved this movie. When it ended, all I could think about was wanting a sequel. Of course, I hope they don’t rush it and put as much care into it as they did into this movie. I definitely hope most of the characters in this movie will be in the next, and continue to be elaborated on and continue to grow, as well as the introduction to other characters.
Free Guy Review

When the trailer for this movie was first released and I saw it, I was so excited. I thought it was a fun idea for a movie, plus, Ryan Reynolds plays the main character, and he is great in every movie he’s been in. Well… outside of Green Lantern but that wasn’t his fault. Plus, the idea behind the movie is amazing, I mean, a video game character that “comes to life” is a good idea in my opinion. Spoilers for Free Guy ahead.
The story of the movie is really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot. A basic summary of the story is that two friends made a game where the NPCs would slowly learn and have personalities and basically be people, but then someone stole their code. Their code was used to create the game that the movie takes place in, Free City. That part of the plot is revealed within the first 45 minutes of the movie or so, and is fairly basic information for it so I don’t think it is much of a spoiler, but definitely still a spoiler.
As for the characters, every character in the movie feels unique in some way. Outside of Guy and Keys, who are supposed to act somewhat similarly because of a plot detail I won’t spoil. I especially liked Dude when he was introduced, since he was put into the game as an “unfinished” character. So instead of him saying lines that make sense he’ll say things like “catch phrase” instead of an actual catch phrase. It just makes him a lot different from the other characters and I really like that, especially since he just has Ryan Reynolds’ face on a body builder’s body, like CGI I would assume.
I also really like how the characters interacted with each other. Like Buddy and Guy, they are best friends that work together in a bank. Plus, all the NPCs know that the people with sunglasses are different, and I like how they’re somewhat aware, they just don’t know that it’s a game. In the movie there are also some references to Marvel and Star Wars at different points. Actual real life streamers have parts in the movie, as themselves talking about the game of course. It all just comes together really nicely in my opinion and I think it helps the plot in a way that seems natural at points.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. Honestly, I just liked the concept from the beginning, so I was expecting to like it. I think that the casting choices were really good with great actors for each role. The plot was great and it worked very well in my opinion. I would definitely recommend watching this movie.
