Cadet Petty Officer 3rd Class Jordyn Durr contributed to our Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps by helping with our annual Car Wash fundraiser, Kasuun Elementary Fall Carnival where she helped set up, work a booth, and helped with cleanup. Additionally, Jordyn helped set up chairs after school for the annual Choir festival at Service, and before Christmas, rung the bell for Salvation Army along with other Cadets, and sang Christmas carols. ROTC always needs help at drill competitions, Jordyn rode the bus with our drill teams to Eagle River and while she spent most of the day hanging out with her friends, she also did her task of ensuring no one took any of our equipment during her appointed watch. Jordyn participated in the Ft Richardson National Guard’s indoor rifle simulator and HMMWV rollover simulator. Jordyn helped at our annual Awards Ceremony greeting guests and presenters and escorting them all to the auditorium for the ceremony. Jordyn supported Bean’s Café’. Her NJROTC Awards consist of the Distinguished Unit Award, Exemplary Personal Appearance with bronze star in lieu of second award, the Physical Fitness Ribbon with bronze lamp, Participation Ribbon with two silver stars, in lieu of 6th award, the Unit Service Ribbon and the Community Service Ribbon. Jordan was posthumously promoted to C/PO3. Jordyn was tragically killed while walking home by a drunk driver August 9, 2013. Her life touched us all and she is truly missed!
