• Class: short acting - sedation - benzodiazepine, anticonvulsant

• Action: inhibits brain neurotransmitters leading to a calming effect, relaxes skeletal muscles and at high doses induces sleep

• Indications: Seizures, anesthesia, sedation

• Adverse Effects: hypotension, decrease respiratory rate, apnea 

• Contraindications: hypersensitivity to midazolam, alcohol intoxication, coma, shock

• Special Considerations: Pregnancy category D

Dosages:

Adults: 

Active Seizures:

• If > 50kg 10mg IM or 2-5mg IV 

• If less than (< 50kg) 0.2mg/kg IM/IV

Status Epilepticus:

• Contact MED Control

    Behavioral Emergencies

• 2.5 mg-5 mg IV or 5 mg IV max of 10 mg

RSI Sedation:

• 2-5 mg IV (Hold if SBP <80 mmHg)

Cardioversion: 

• 5 mg IV

Pediatrics:

Active Seizures:

• 0.2mg/kg IN/IM/IV q 2 - 5min (MAX 5mg) 

Sedation for Cardioverson:

• 0.2 mg/kg IV
