Class: short acting - sedation - benzodiazepine, anticonvulsant
Action: inhibits brain neurotransmitters leading to a calming effect, relaxes skeletal muscles and at high doses induces sleep
Indications: Seizures, anesthesia, sedation
Adverse Effects: hypotension, decrease respiratory rate, apnea
Contraindications: hypersensitivity to midazolam, alcohol intoxication, coma, shock
Special Considerations: Pregnancy category D

Adults:
Active Seizures:
If > 50kg 10mg IM or 2-5mg IV
If less than (< 50kg) 0.2mg/kg IM/IV

Behavioral Emergencies
2.5 mg-5 mg IV or 5 mg IV max of 10 mg
RSI Sedation:
2-5 mg IV (Hold if SBP <80 mmHg)
Cardioversion:
5 mg IV
Pediatrics:
Active Seizures:
0.2mg/kg IN/IM/IV q 2 - 5min (MAX 5mg)
Sedation for Cardioverson:
0.2 mg/kg IV
