Class: Antiarrhythmic
Action: Slows the conduction time through the AV node.
Indications: PSVT, SVT, may consider for wide-complex tachycardia if rhythm is regular, PSVT associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW)
Adverse Effects: Sense of impeding doom. flushing, and Asystole.
Contraindications: All dysrhythmia possibilities (sick sinus syndrome); Heart blocks, Hypersensitivity to medication
Special Considerations: Pregnancy Class C - when given patients may express chest pain, SOB, or Impending doom
Dosages:
Adults:
Initial - 6mg RAPID IV/IO push followed by a 10cc Saline Flush
2nd dose - 12mg RAPID IV/IO push followed by a 10cc Saline Flush
Pediatrics:
0.1mg/kg to MAX dose of 6mg for 1st dose
0.2mg/kg to MAX of 12mg for 2nd dose
