Class: Nitrates, anginal, vasodilator,
Action: stimulates cGMP production resulting in smooth muscle relaxation.
Indications: Angina
Adverse Effects: hypotension, syncope, headache, dizziness, flushing.
Contraindications: known allergy to the drug, severe anemia, circulatory collapse, shock, hypotension,
Special Considerations: Use with caution in Pregnancy
Dosages:
Adult:
0.4mg (1 tablet) SL q 5 minutes (MAX 3 doses)
Nitroglycerin Paste-2%: Per COG if Nitro relieves chest pain
1" of paste to anterior chest wall
If at any time the patient becomes hypotensive, remove the paste.
Pediatrics:
NOT currently recommended in children
