IPRATROPIUM
Class: Bronchodilator, anticholinergic
Action: Antagonizes the acetylcholine receptor on bronchial smooth muscles producing bronchodilation
Indications: Asthma, bronchospasm associated with COPD
Adverse Effects: Paradoxical acute bronchospasms, cough, throat irritation, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, palpitations
Contraindications: Glaucoma (closed angle), prostatic hypertrophy, known sensitivity to peanuts, soybeans and atropine
Special Considerations: Pregnancy Class B - Administer Atrovent with Albuterol (beta agonist) at the same time within the same nebulizer for synergistic effect
