Mandarin Chinese

Welcome to KLA 2021-2022 Secondary Chinese Class!

In this introductory class, students will learn to talk about themselves in Mandarin and experience Chinese culture through authentic materials!


We learn that there are 8 basic strokes in Chinese character writings. Students practice writing with Chinese calligraphy brushes on tracing pads.

We celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival on August 15th of the Lunar Calendar. Students learned the 3 legends about Mid-Autumn Festival and show their understanding of the celebration by making a Rabit lantern which shows the drawing of the legends.

Confucius is an influential Chinese teacher and philosopher. His teaching in human relationships and virtues still plays an important role in Chinese society. Students learn about the 4 fundamental virtues in this student-centered activity.

Students celebrate the Spring Festival with this Paper-Cut craft, which is one of the UNESCO Chinese Cultural Intangible Heritage.

Beijing Opera

Beijing Opera, which combines art, music, and vocal in the performance, is the most dominant form of Chinese Opera. Students learn to distinguish the roles played by different characters based on the color of their face painting. Click here to learn more!
