May Mandalas

Students created Mandala designs in May this year. We measured a square paper that was 9" x 9" to create our designs. Students then made a template using a ruler and compass. In order to measure the angles equally we learned how to bisect an angle using a compass. The template allowed students to then create different shapes and patterns while still keeping the design symmetrical. You can see below on the left the student templates that we created. After we made our templates students traced the first 4 circles of their template on a separate sheet of paper to practice designs in pencil until they found a pattern they liked. Students colored their mandalas with colored pencils or markers.
