Harold Hollingsworth Inspired Art

Student created works of art inspired by the artist, Harold Hollingsworth. We first looked at some of Hollingsworth paintings and identified some of the common features such as the use of letters, numbers, symbols and signs. Students wrote their name using block letters on a square sheet of paper. They then added 2-3 numbers and 3-4 signs or symbols, which they then decorated and colored with markers and colored pencils. In order to create the abstract, collage-like feel, students drew a grid on the back of their paper that divided the large square into 16 smaller squares. Using scissors, they cut the artwork along the grid lines and then reassembled the squares into a visually appealing design and glued it in place with gluestick.
