Students made Day of the Dead inspired figurines using wire, paper-mache, clay, paint and a wooden base. We usually do a Day of the Dead project every year in the fall. This project is similar to past figurines we have done with the exception of placing the figure on a wooden base as a stand.Â
The sculpture began with wire pieces that were taped together and then stapled to the wooden block so it stands. We then did a coat of paper-mache to give the sculpture some volume and to help make it more sturdy. We then used air dry clay for the head, hands and any other exposed areas. The sculpture was then painted including the wooden base. Students also created props out of clay and attached them with hot glue.Â
