Op Art Shading Project

Students created overlapping, twisting and winding shapes using colored pencils. The did one layer at a time and then added some shadow where layers overlap one another to create a sense of depth and an optical illusion. The shapes are purely abstract, but contain a variety of width and direction to them. Students created 5 layers and colored the background with a black marker to create contrast.

Starry Night Inspired Paintings

In this project, students created their own version of Starry Night, by Van Gogh. We looked at Van Gogh's painting and practiced creating a similar night sky in the same style of Van Gogh. Students then had to design the bottom portion of the painting in a creative manner that was different than the original.
