Journalism
Journalism 101
Journalism is not just an elective, but a classroom within itself. It takes skills learned in Humanities and Science and interconnects that information in order for our students to not only be successful leaders but KLA journalists as well. In the Journalism class, students not only report to the KLA community but learn the importance of being a journalist and what it takes to be an ethical one at that.
The following are topics that they learn about throughout the year:
Journalism Code of Ethics
Bias vs. Nonbias
Media Ethics
Elements of Newsworthiness
Different styles of writing
The Daily Cougar
The Daily Cougar, previously KLA NEWS, consists of the students that chose Journalism as an elective. The students/or journalists are split into different groups- Editors, Reporters, Writers, and Web Team- with each having specific goals and deadlines that they must meet on a weekly/monthly basis.
Reporters: Report the news to the KLA community via LOOM or broadcast.
Writers: Create newsworthy articles for the Daily Cougar website that consist of current events or topics that may be engaging or connect to the student body as a whole.
Web Team: Consists of a group of students that update the website on a weekly basis.
Editors: The leaders of each group that make sure everyone is meeting weekly/monthly deadlines.
