A group of 15 pupils from Novelties Book Club attended the Grampian Children’s Book Awards Ceremony in Aberdeen on 8 May, where our pupils scooped top prizes: the book club received a prize for their book trailer of the novel Every Word a Lie By Sue Wallman. This was shown to the audience in the University of Aberdeen Arts Centre. Tegan Hendry in S2 was awarded a prize for her review of Resist by Tom Palmer.
The award ceremony gives pupils the opportunity to see the shortlisted authors and see the winner announced and know that they have played a part in the final result.
Our pupils were delighted to see, hear and to meet the authors on the shortlist. They enjoyed the chat and book signing with this year’s winner, Tom Palmer - author of Resist - and with authors Ravena Guron and Sue Wallman.

The Grampian Children’s Book Award is an award set up by school librarians in Aberdeen City, Aberdeen-shire and Moray. Our pupils have the opportunity to read a diverse selection of high quality Young Adult fiction.
Novelties Book Club pupils read, discuss and vote for their favourite books from the longlist.
After the votes have been counted and submitted to the organising committee, a shortlist is produced. Again, it is over to the pupils to read, discus and vote and decide what the award winning book is going to be.
The shortlist for the 2022 award is exciting and all the books are great reads!
