Senior pupils can volunteer for this reading project with our five primary schools:
Bishopmill
East End
St Sylvester's
Seafield
West End
You will support primary pupils in our local communty and help to develop their motivation and confidence and love of reading.
You can make new friendships and enjoy being a part of a team while developing your own volunteering and leadership skills.
The group has visited all of our primary schools since last August and shared lots of stories and the joy of reading with so many enthusiastic primary pupils.
Huge thanks to the pupil superstars for all their work on this project: Phoebe Devine, Ben Rankin, Anna Reid, Faith Shute and Kaia Warr.
The project will resume in the new academic session with our new senior cohort.
All were sorry to say goodbye to the wonderful West Enders! Their enthusiasm and love of the reading time has been amazing.
Lots of lovely pictures here of the story times; sharing of stories and of the picture books.
"Don't Say These Words: is the name of one of the books. And, of course, we do want to say the funny words!
This led to lots of chat about pets and our names for our pets.
Lots of stories to share again between the S6s and the P2s.
Anna shared our own Mr Hay (in the English department) 's picture book with the P2s - who were delighted.
The Primary Reading Team brought a varied selection of books to share with the P4/5s: animals; real-life heroes; Star Wars and lots of stories.
The S6s returned to St Sylvester's - after in-service days - and their friends in the class loved seeing them!
More stories, reading, picture books and lots of fun.
What a fun, book-filled sessionn St Sylvester's Primary School.
The P2/3/4s didn't want the S6 Primary Reading Team to leave.
Back in two weeks after in-service days 📚 😁.
We began this session's project with a visit to St Sylvester's Primary School and the team will be reading with the P6/7 class for a few weeks.
