BACKGROUND
There is an unmet need amongst a wide variety of user demographics for luxury extended-stay accommodation. This accommodation type is becoming more and more popular amongst high-end travelers, business-people, and users spending time away from their homes. The Corde Hotel incorporates the need for place connection and feeling like home, private and public spaces, hotel amenities, and intentional design.
The space is comprised of a welcoming lobby with full-service staff, a comprehensive guest fitness facility, a unique gathering space in the conservatory guest lounge, and spacious suites with all of the elements of home. To complete the experience the hotel offers an attached exclusive access to The Corde Market-Cafe, a boutique grocery store, and cafe. In addition to produce, dairy, meat, and grocery items, the market also sells local baked goods, fine cheeses and deli meats, made to order sandwiches and small bites, and beverages such as coffee, tea, smoothies, and fresh-squeezed juices. The market is set up so hotel guests can access it directly though a private entrance, eat-in, take-away, or even have room service deliver the day’s fresh bread, coffee, and orange juice to their rooms when they awaken.
The 'Corde' name is a nod to the Shaganappi neighborhood in which it resides as Shaganappi is Cree (the traditional peoples of the area) for a corde of leather used to tie wood. Through its many offerings, The Corde Hotel provides a space which intends to also create ties: to each other, to oneself, and to the location. By bringing the outdoor spaces of home into the hotel environment the Corde provides a natural, relaxing, restorative atmosphere and fosters a sense of place. The finishes and furnishings within the hotel are representative of Calgary: a mix between traditional and modern, tied together by the natural influences of the environment around us.
ATMOSPHERE & EXPERIENCE
ELEGANT, SOPHISTICATED, NATURAL, HOME.
The Corde Hotel embraces the intersection between the traditional and contemporary. Beautiful details accent clean lines. Neutral tones, warm woods, natural stone, and organic artworks (by Michael Nauer and Damian Hurst) complete the space.
The palette draws from the natural environment around us: light woods, black soils, white snow, mossy green forests, grey stone peaks, blue rivers, pink sunsets, and golden fields. The incorporation of these biophilic elements into traditional luxury creates a soothing, inviting space for guests coming for a day, or a lifetime.
