conceptual direction
The film industry is an emerging sector in Calgary. Its infrastructure, however, has not kept pace with the growth of the industry. Practical communal spaces that support all phases and disciplines of production for Calgary filmmakers of all skill levels are needed to help support this growing community.

The accessibility to a place like this provides practical resources that would help budding film enthusiasts gain the necessary hands on experience to enable them to move their passion into a career. It provides a stepping stone by providing access to, and understanding of how the film world works, from attending workshops by people in the industry as well. This space would also provide the more experienced film makers with the real estate to create their sets, host meetings, and take care of all aspects of their production--pre production to production to post production.
main floor
main floor explanation
The main level is where the production phase of filmmaking takes place. There are three studios open studio spaces that are customizable, depending on the specific set in which the user will be building and creating.
With film production, spaces for the crew members and people involved are important. The greenroom is a comfortable space to wait and relax until they are needed on set. Next there is the makeup and wardrobe with change rooms and a large makeup counter for users to apply regular or special effects makeup for a shoot.
Since this space is also about being able to showcase the creations and the work being done within, there are a few places in the reception area that allow that. Along the floor are circular structures serving a similar function to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There are also display shelves along the reception wall.

second floor explanation
The second level serves as a functioning place for pre-production and post production. There are four editing suites and one recording studio, with professional equipment inside.
Another area that can be found in the second level is the screening room. This is a multipurpose space. It can be for outside people--invited friends, family, guests-- to come and watch a film being created here. The stage is for any industry people to be able to come in and give talks and lectures.
In the open work area, users are able to come here to collaborate as a group and brainstorm any project ideas they might have. Also found in this open work area is a stage, useful if someone wants to have a more casual presentation.
There are three offices for those who would like more of a private and traditionally-organized collaboration space, with large televisions and pin up boards.
