As Desi diaspora, we often fall susceptible to feeling the need to acculturate once immigrating to our ‘home’ countries. It is not uncommon for the culture that once used to run through us in pride, to become shameful. The clothes and jewellery that are filled with beauty, the delicious food we eat or the native languages we speak are all things that remind us of how different we are from everyone else. Whilst we can speak for the melting pot ideology, it's important to recognize that melting the different cultures and backgrounds of the world together means washing them away so the majority can feel more comfortable. The intent of this project is to work against these notions and instead preserve our culture that deserves to take place in our lives just as much as every other western ideology we adopt. The term 'Hifazat' translates to ‘the preservation of’, and this space will
encourage and encompass the true preservation of desi culture.
