PROJECT BACKGROUND
Every child is unique, special, and gifted… But not all children use their natural aptitudes and sometimes feel lost about who they are and who they want to be. The creative learning center has been designed for children from 5 to 13 years old to come and explore their creative abilities.
CONCEPT
The intent is to create a space where children could regenerate, energize, and get inspired. Drawing inspiration from the mountains allows me to create this kind of interior. So, Energy, Imagination, and Enjoyment are keywords for the design. Moreover, the creative experience within the learning center is enhanced by the moments of surrealism.
Angles and sharp lines energize. Glossy and reflective materials provoke the imagination. Natural materials soothe and relax.
MATERIALS + FURNITURE
The main materials in the space are wood of warm natural colour, white glossy flooring, and the metal mirror-like ceiling. Bright accents have been brought into every space.
MAIN FLOOR PLAN
The main floor features a café with a delicious bakery, a small library, and a little kiosk for printing t-shirts, where children can do custom t-shirts with their personal art.
SECOND FLOOR PLAN
The second floor is a more private area where children take art, music, dance, and drama classes. Some of these learning spaces share activities, for instance, dance and drama are happening in the same classroom. The spaces are divided into 2 categories: semiprivate art classrooms with a visual connection to the corridor and private enclosed classrooms for music and dance.
There are two different Art classes. One has desks and chairs, and another one has easels.
Music classrooms are of two sizes: one bigger is for group classes, and 6 small classrooms are one-on-one. 3 of them have a piano inside, and 3 others have two chairs for students with their own musical instruments. On this floor, there is a spacious open space with flexible seating and a chalkboard wall for children to gather before or after classes.
CEILING PLANS
The main ceiling materials are painted drywall and reflective metal mirror-like panels. The second one plays important role in my design, because it creates depth, evokes a sense of openness, reflects, and creates a moment of surrealism. Recessed lighting is used between metal panels as well as on gypsum board ceilings. Additionally, sculptural repetitive panels in the café work as a feature of the area. They create a nice texture and enrich this zone where mirror panels are.
