Both cats & dogs play an integral part in many individuals' lives, and for many people their cat and/or dog is their family. However, sometimes the love and affection shown to humans from cats & dogs is not reciprocated, and they are abandoned or surrendered due to personal issues like moving, lifestyle changes, or allergies. This results in an abundance of cats & dogs either on the streets or overflow in animal shelters.
So, why do so many cats & dogs end up on the streets or shelters?
From my research, it appears there is a lack of education regarding animal welfare, from proper training, facilities, and a general understanding of what having a cat and/or dog in your life really means and requires.
In order to address this raised issue, the objective of this project focused on designing a facility that supports and connects both humans and cats & dogs. The center not only provides a supportive and encouraging space, but gives individuals the opportunity to expand their knowledge of animal welfare.
Provide a space to help provide shelter for homeless cats & support existing shelters through collaboration to provide more spaces for rescues to be housed.
Encourage community engagement by providing a fun & interactive environment for individuals to interact with the each other and cats & dogs which is beneficial for both human and animal well-being.
Provide an educational and welcoming space for pet owners to access facilities & services for their pets and host community programs and classes to help educate the community about animal welfare.
A central hub for both community & pet owners to gather, engage, & learn about the welfare for cats & dogs; and encourage human interactions & relationships with each other & animals.
