Campus Ministry nourishes the development of religious faith and practice at Mount Aloysius College, while affirming the individual and empowering the community to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Campus Ministry respects the religious traditions of the many while expressing the identity and mission of a Catholic college rich in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy.
Campus Ministry participates in every aspect of the college community through prayer, liturgy, community service, and pastoral care and encourages all to integrate personal faith into the academic and social environment of the college.
Students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills via two student leadership teams. Members of the Student Ministry Outreach Team (also known as SMOT) lead faith based programs such as retreats, prayer services, liturgies and faith sharing “fostering spirituality peer to peer.” Members of the Social Action Leadership Team (Also known as SALT) are “servant leaders” who implement service projects and social justice related events aimed at fostering creative nonviolence and addressing the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy.
Campus Ministry fosters global citizenship through mission trips both domestically and internationally. Alternative break experiences provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to serve within the United States and abroad during college breaks. Participants are able to develop their spirituality and deepen their relationship with God while living out the Gospel values and examining issues of injustice further developing a life-long commitment to working for the Common Good.
Our Lady of Mercy Chapel is located in the Chapel Wing adjoining the second floor of the Main Building. This historic chapel is open daily for meditation and prayer. All students, faculty and staff members are welcome regardless of denomination. Special services are held at Thanksgiving, Christmas, during Lent and on other occasions throughout the year.

The Student Ministry Outreach Team consists of eight students from various faith backgrounds. They play an active role in liturgical planning and implementation. In addition, they plan many faith-based programs such as:
MAC Goes to Church, a monthly nondenominational prayer service
Mid Month drop ins, day long hospitality events that foster community
Thanksgiving prayer service, an interfaith prayer event open to the entire campus community
Angel Tree, a community outreach event that provides Christmas gifts for local children.
Implementation of the campus Peace Garden, a week long project in celebration of Earth Day
Easter Jam, a Christian music event.
Hunger and Homelessness awareness events
Peace Walk, a campus walk that fosters global social and economic concerns
Midterm de-stressing events
Community Service Guidelines
Purpose: Community service is one of the four Mercy Values promoted at Mount Aloysius College. It is reflected in the core values of Mount Aloysius College and is central to the mission of our Catholic, Mercy institution. Service provides students the opportunity to use their gifts and talents to help those in need and to support local non-profit organizations. The service completed by our MAC community members contributes to an individual’s intellectual, social and spiritual growth.
Requirement: Each Mount Aloysius College student has varying levels of community service hour requirements depending on what activities, scholarships or classes that they select. Please email missionintegration@mtaloy.edu if you have questions about your service requirements.
Definition of Community Service:
It is unpaid
It is a voluntary act performed by a student or group of students with an approved non-profit agency.
Time spent in planning or preparation of the service can be counted as service hours.
Guidelines:
Donating/collecting food or goods: When documenting hours, count the time spent gathering the goods and transporting them to the site (not the quantity of goods collected).
Service Learning: Those who participate in a service learning course/activity document hours spent in direct service with the community (i.e., working at a retirement home to teach financial skills), not their time spent in the classroom planning the activity.
What does not count for Service Hours?
Any event used to promote student organizations for the purpose of gaining new members.
Projects where the organization is paid for services and retains the funds.
Illegal projects.
Any persons representing Mount Aloysius College at events or service projects must abide by the following guidelines:
Dress appropriately for the project you are completing. No obscene language, drug, alcohol, pornography or violence should be visible on clothing.
MAC employees and students should wear Mount Aloysius College clothing if possible during service projects.
Limit time spent on cell phones or listening to electronic devices unless permitted by the organization being served.
Use appropriate language when performing service. Some facilities house children and elderly.
Be respectful to the supervisor(s) of the organization being served.
Do not complete any task that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Community Service Online Form can be found online on the Campus Ministry page.
