What is the Learning Commons?

The learning commons is located on the first floor of the library. It provides assistance to students free of charge. Some of the services offered through the learning commons include Peer and Professional tutoring.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is offered for some classes on campus to provide additional aid to students who need it. You will be told by your professor if SI is available for your class, and you will meet your SI leader , who will hold regular meetings to go over the materials that you learn in class.

Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring is provided for numerous classes throughout the semester. These sessions are held by another student who has already taken the class, done well in it, and has been recommended by their professor. The first step in obtaining a peer tutor is to fill out the request for a tutor form located in Navigate.  Please note that peer tutoring sessions can be conducted face-to-face or virtually.

Professional Tutoring

The Learning Commons also offers professional tutors for writing, English, math, religious studies, psychology, health sciences, and nursing.   The professional tutors are located in the Learning Commons on the first floor of the library. To set up an appointment with a professional tutor, determine which tutor you need to see, and follow the steps in Navigate to schedule appointments with your tutor.  Professional tutoring services can be conducted face-to-face or virtually.

Navigate

Navigate is our Student Success Management System. It brings together students, staff, advisors, faculty, and others in a collaborative network to holistically support students across the college journey. Students will be able to schedule appointments, contact resources on campus, set up study groups, and more – all from an app on their phone.
