Student Leader Guidelines

Students in leadership roles* and/or whom plan to utilize College funding sources or facilities, will adhere to the following guidelines related to campus programming:

*Leadership roles include but are not limited to the following: Student Government Association executive board members, Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders, Club/Organization executives (both professional and non-professional), and Mercy Scholar Student Ambassadors.

Responsibilities

In keeping with our College’s mission and standards as a Catholic institution sponsored by the Religious Sisters of Mercy– students who perform a leadership role as listed above serve as a role model and representative of not only that organization but also for Mount Aloysius College.

Accordingly, students should be mindful of the types of events, activities, and programs that they are hosting. These events, activities, and programs should add value to the campus community and further promote our mission. Programs should welcome people of all creeds, races, nationalities, and ages who wish to participate in the life of the campus community.

The College is firm in its commitment to creating an environment for living and learning in the hope of supporting the lifelong intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development of every student who experiences the unique and exceptional Mount Aloysius College education.

Events with sensitive or triggering subject matters must be approved by the College and may require a content warning. For example; adult subject matter with racism, violence/hate speech, physical abuse, sexual violence, sexual orientation, or self-harm.

Content that is deemed inappropriate to the Mission and Values of the institution, or goes against the goals of student programing, will be denied based on potential negative impact to campus climate and community.

Students in leadership roles should work closely with their Advisor and/or Supervisor who is there as a guide, resource, and mentor. Students are expected to maintain a positive and respectful working relationship with these Advisors and/or Supervisors. In times of discourse, students are expected to remain civil and respectful, understanding the College’s long standing values, traditions, and philosophies.

Non-Compliance

Any non-adherence to the above assumptions or policies can jeopardize a student’s status with the club/organization/program within the College.

Further restrictions may apply based upon the circumstances surrounding the non-compliance, and may continue through the next academic year and beyond.
