This Possible Selves Program is designed to create a positive mindset towards languages and how languages can support the student's dreams of future careers.
Develop a positive language vision of themselves as proficient users of foreign languages
Develop an action plan to keep themselves motivated so they will not give up before any real progress is made.
All students need support and encouragement to see the benefit of putting in the time to learn other languages, especially if proficiency is 10+ years in the future
Possible Selves is about visualization and positive thinking. Art and music activate more senses in your students' brains, inspire learning, and help internalize new concepts.
Do not skip the benefits of these powerful tools.
For each unit select 1 visual artifact and 1 song with lyrics related to the artifact for best results.
You will need 6 artifacts/modalities and a tree that has significance in the culture.
Choose cultural artifacts that reflect positive thinking.
Consider using strong cultural connections to craft
Choose 1 song with a connection to each artifact or positive thinking modality in the unit.
Identify vocabulary and grammar in these lyrics for the unit language lesson.
Each unit builds on the previous activities to develop the students' Language Vision and an Action Plan for future learning.
