Students explored a Japanese travel website that featured Kansas City locations. Each student chose 4 places they wanted to share on their blog or twitter in Japanese. Day 1 they identified the locations and read about them in Japanese. Day 2 they wrote sentences with compound adjective patterns for each location. Day 3 they included a warning or remark a traveler should be aware of. Students also used the proofreading sheet to support each other. The final slide is their final draft.
Nengajo cards are sent each December and are unique to the sender. Students explored a Japanese website for designing your own card. First they explored the different genres and noted the different elements, colors, and presentations on their note taking slide. Next students created their own Nengajo card the included the required elements for the annual AATJ Nengajo Contest. The final slide with their original Nengajo is posted to their blog and portfolio.
NOTE: although this activity is the same as JLC1, their observations and perceptions were much deeper and richer.
