This project was created in 2006-2007, totally funded by community donations. The gardens have been maintained by the Swartz Creek Vets Memorial Committee and Master Gardeners since that time. The Memorial consists of statues representing the military branches and Memorial brick paths commemorating war veterans and supporters. Two large annual flower gardens line the entrance and a nearby is an ornamental grass garden with a small pond and waterfall. EMGs, along with community volunteers and the Sw. Cr. Virtual Learning Center students, participate in hands-on garden prep, fertilizing, weeding, mulching, pruning flowering trees/shrubs, and Fall cleanup in October. Plant label stakes are installed each Spring.
