The native garden consists of walking paths through a wooded area. There is a swale that has water present in the spring. The native plants have been cultivated and many invasive plants removed. The public has a very unique opportunity to walk through a woodland and see the wonderful plants that grow there. The Monarch Way-station sign has been installed. Pathways are available to walk thru the garden. Plant signage throughout the garden teaches people what to plant in their own yard for support of butterflies. This garden raises community awareness to the need of providing habitats such as this one. The Human Sundial is a working sundial (when the sun is shining :) also installed is a sunshine flower bed and a crescent moon sculpture with moon phases signage. The perimeter is pyramid boxwoods. Many teachers have brought students over to learn about time utilizing the sundial. Many, many people visit Rust Park for children's playground, basketball, jogging, walking dogs. Crim youth joggers use the paved paths. Indian Hill Elementary is adjacent by way of bridge. Many classrooms come for walking tours of the park. The paved paths are utilized by children as well as elderly. The Native garden is ongoing. The swale has recently been enhanced with cobble stones for a dry creek bed effect during the summer. Signage being made to educate the public on the native plants that grow there. More paths are being developed for enjoyment of the Native Garden. Pictures have been taken of each step of establishing the way-station. We are monitoring and documenting bees and butterflies that arrive to the garden. Many people have already stopped by and are watching the establishment of this garden. The local newspaper came by to take pictures.
