A Master Gardener project since 2011, the focus is on native plants and pollinators. The three main garden areas are spread along the trail, which follows alongside the Flint River in Flushing. The trail gardeners learn to identify native perennials and shrubs at every stage of growth, as well as their culture and their symbiotic relationship with native pollinators. They also learn about the nature of weeds and invasive plants, and the hungry critters that inhabit this site. There is a variety of garden types – shady woodland, sunny, wet and dry – and the plants that do and don’t do well in each situation.
