The zoo's entrance is the first impact site for all families and school bus trips that come to the zoo every year. Since our volunteers are present maintaining the beds 3 to 4 times per week while the zoo is open there are a lot of opportunities to answer questions about the plants, gardening and the Extension Master Gardener program. We are challenged with planning and maintaining two raised beds- one sun and one in the shade. Explaining this, planting, plant selection, watering are some of the ways we educate the public. Our plants are identified/labeled. Because of the zoo's downtown location it is accessible to all throughout the city and county as well. The exhibits are aimed at the children. The adopt a garden program was started many years ago and the Saginaw Master Gardeners have been a presence at the zoo for many of those years, in different capacities. The zoo is handicap accessible.
