Conductor
Mr Tong Wei Jie is a dedicated and accomplished dizi musician and conductor with many years of experience in the music scene. Drawing on his rich musical background, he conducts and rehearses RVCO during our combined sessions, guiding the orchestra with clarity and professionalism. Passionate about music education, Mr Tong enjoys sharing his knowledge and skills with his students, always striving to make the learning process meaningful and enjoyable.
Mr Tong began his musical journey at a young age and has since developed a strong foundation in both performance and music production. He holds a Diploma in Songwriting and Production from the School of Music and the Arts. In 2022, he furthered his expertise by completing a Master of Education (Music) [MEd] at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, reflecting his commitment to both musical excellence and teaching.
Beyond his role as a musician and conductor, Mr Tong is a versatile individual with expertise in video editing, music production, and various other technical skills. His wide-ranging abilities allow students to gain exposure to different aspects of the music industry, extending learning beyond performance alone.
With Mr Tong as part of RVCO, members are presented with valuable opportunities to develop new skills and deepen their musical understanding. During the December holidays, some members participated in a music rearrangement workshop conducted by Mr Tong himself. Under his guidance, they rearranged pieces such as the Chinese New Year medley and《知音》, among many others that we have performed. His dedication and mentorship continue to greatly enrich the learning experience within RVCO.
Assistant Conductor
Ms Eevian Loi is a multi-talented musician and conductor who plays an integral role in supporting RVCO during combined sessions, where she works closely alongside Mr Tong. With her strong musicality and extensive experience in Chinese orchestral music, she provides students with professional guidance and insightful, constructive feedback, helping them develop both technical proficiency and musical expression.
Ms Eevian was formerly a member of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Chinese Orchestra, a premier ensemble within Singapore’s only government-funded institution offering a dedicated Chinese Instrumental Studies programme. The orchestra trains over 40 full-time students in both solo and ensemble performance, and regularly represents the institution in local and international platforms. Through this rigorous and holistic training environment, Ms Eevian developed a strong artistic foundation while contributing to the cultivation of a distinct, high-quality Singaporean Chinese music identity.
Driven by her dedication and unwavering passion for Chinese music, Ms Eevian continued her professional journey with Ding Yi Music Company. She was featured as a liuqin soloist in numerous Ding Yi performances and, according to Ding Yi’s annual reports, represented the company in a wide range of local and international performances from 2014 to 2022. Beyond her expertise in the liuqin, Ms Eevian is also proficient in the ruan, demonstrating her versatility and deep understanding of the diverse instrumental roles within the Chinese orchestra.
With her rich musical background, comprehensive understanding of Chinese orchestral repertoire and instrumentation, as well as her cheerful and patient teaching style, Ms Eevian guides students with genuine passion and care. Her approachable mentorship and wealth of experience greatly enrich students’ learning journeys, inspiring confidence, musical growth, and a deeper appreciation for Chinese orchestral music.
