What is HSSLA?
HSSLA Prospectus 2023-2024
HSSLA aims to cultivate students who are Leaders, Thinkers and Humanists.
Through a series of academic modules for enrichment and partnerships with NGOs and universities, students will expand on the depth and scope of their knowledge of the humanities, and their connection with the sciences.
HSSLA members are also offered leadership opportunities, such as curating their very own SLAM modules (Student-Led Academic Modules), being part of the organising committee of HSSLA's signature school-wide programme, HSSLA NOW!, and to participate in national level competitions to challenge themselves at the highest level.
Also, HSSLA members have the opportunity to take part in the academy’s Overseas Experiential Learning Programme (OELP), to gain valuable insights and understanding of key issues such as globalization, history, environmentalism, culture and current affairs.
At the end of their journey in HSSLA, students are equipped with multi-disciplinary thinking that gives them an edge in university learning and the new economy.

Our Activities
Selected HSSLA JC members have the opportunity to take part in the academy’s Overseas Experiential Learning Programme (OELP), to gain valuable insights and understanding of key issues such as globalization, history, environmentalism, culture and current affairs.
Our academic modules cover multi-disciplinary aspects of the various Humanities. This is in order to nurture and foster our students through exposure to multifaceted thinking, promoting their growth as a Humanist.
Student-Led Academic Modules (SLAM) are designed by students, for students. Under close tutelage of a HSSLA teacher, you will learn how to design, deliver and assess a module on a topic or concept of your own liking.
HSSLA NOW! (Formerly Humanities NOW!) is one of HSSLA's signature programmes. It aims to engage the student body on the urgency and importance of the Humanities, shedding spotlight on critical humanitarian issues through mediums such as panel discussions. HSSLA Members have the opportunity to sign up to be part of the Organising Committee, to gain experience in planning a school-wide event.
Our Modules
HSSLA deep dives into humanities topics, societal behaviours, pop culture and any other possible topics under the Sun. Providing protected CCA time, HSSLA helps students to persue what they are truly concerned about outside of school curriculum, as well as host learning journeys to increase students' exposure to the world. Students who are exposed to different topics are pushed to critically think and discover interdisciplinary concepts in which they can apply in their lives.
