Tedizolid is a next-generation oxazolidinone antibiotic, developed as an improved version of Linezolid. It has enhanced potency and a longer half-life, allowing once-daily dosing. Like linezolid, it’s used to treat Gram-positive bacterial infections, including resistant strains like MRSA and VRE.
Tedizolid works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit, just like linezolid, preventing the formation of the initiation complex necessary for translation.
