The teacher is a reflective practitioner who uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (students, families, and other professionals in the learning community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
This means that the teacher is able to reflect on his or her teaching while continuing to grow and become the best teacher to their ability.
Indicator 9b: Engages in meaningful and appropriate professional learning experiences aligned with his/her own needs and the needs of the learners, school, and system.
Rationale:
This artifact is the reflection and self evaluation aspect of my teacher work sample. This was a very critical part of my teacher work sample because I took the time to analyze the unit and reflect on my teaching and develop professional goals for the future.
This artifact meets the standard of reflection and continuous growth because in this artifact the teacher spent the time and effort to reflect on the teaching in efforts to better themselves. Planning professional goals for the future, and reflecting on the lessons and instructional strategies during this unit was very important, and learning how to become a better teacher. The indicator above is a great representation of the artifact because the the reflection is aligned with what happened in the classroom with my students, and how I can better meet the needs of my students. Overall this artifact meets the standard of reflecting and continuous growth and how important it is to reflect and grow while teaching.
Indicator 9m: Is committed to deepening understanding of his/her own frames of reference (e.g., culture, gender, language, abilities, ways of knowing), the potential biases in these frames, and their impact on expectations for relationships with learners and their families.
Rationale:
This artifact is the reflection of my vide self analysis. This was provided to me by the UMF student teaching handbook and asked important questions that would help me self reflect on my video. This was a video of me teaching my second lesson, and then watching back the video to reflect on the overall lesson.
This artifact meets the standard because the teacher shows they are able to reflect and continuously grow during a school year and self evaluating after a lesson. It can be sometimes difficult to self evaluate yourself during the school year and especially after a lesson, but I noticed how important it can be and how much you can learn from the video. The indicator above is a great representation of this artifact because during this lesson I was able to learn more about myself as a teacher, and how I can continue to meet the needs of all of my students. Overall this artifact meets the standard and shows that as a teacher i have the ability to reflect and grow as an educator during the school year and continue to develop as an aspiring educator.
