The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners.
This means as the teacher you are able to understand themes and concepts, and use different methodology to teach your students. Providing different learning experiences for your students. The understanding of creating lesson plans and implementing them into your classroom to meet the needs of all students.
Indicator 4g: Uses supplementary resources and technologies effectively to ensure accessibility and relevance to all learners.
Rationale:
This artifact is a jeopardy review game I made for my students. The purposed of this activity was to review probability so students would be prepared for their summative assessment. Students worked in teams to answer the questions, this was a very interactive activity and students were excited while participating.
This artifact meets the standard of content knowledge because I created a interactive activity for students to work in teams or they could work by themselves if they wanted. I understood that my students enjoy working with peers and I developed this game to meet their needs in the classroom. I used my content knowledge from this unit to create a fun game for students that would be engaging, but also touch upon the content we discussed throughout the unit. I modified the game so that each team had a chance to answer every questions and so students would be more involved during the lesson. Working as a group is a great skill for students to develop and this activity promotes that skill development. The indicator above is a great representation of my artifact because I am using technology as a supplementary resource for my students to further develop their content knowledge.
Indicator 4d: Stimulates student reflection on prior content knowledge, links new concepts to familiar concepts, and makes connections to learner's experiences.
Rationale:
This artifact is the second lesson plan from my teacher work sample. This lesson specifically discusses categorical variables and quantitative variables, as well as touches upon prior knowledge from our first class. This lesson also connects the direct instruction to our summative assessment and a familiar concept.
This artifact meets the standard of content knowledge because for this lesson as the teacher I had to give students new content that they had never seen before. I tried not to overwhelm them, but it was important that they learned this new content. I also touched upon content from the previous lesson to help students see the connections in our learning. The goal was to build towards making a survey which students were able to start doing during this lesson. The indicator above is a great representation of the the artifact because the teacher is able to reflect on prior content knowledge with students, and then build off of it to lead students into the next assignment. Overall this artifact meets the standard of content knowledge because the teacher shows content knowledge throughout the lesson and how to best deliver it to students.
