I thought it was a fitting inclusion to mention after a discussion at my work study how the African continent rallied at the very earliest stages of the pandemic that were possible which resulted in far fewer deaths in countries like Rwanda and Nigeria as their public health systems did not have the luxury of pretending that the virus could be ignored. With a new record of cases in the U.S per day, there is a deep level of frustration for myself in those around me because the stark contrast in deaths per 100,000, which thus accounts for differences in population size shows how extremely the US has failed to respond to COVID (Pilling 2020). The US spends huge amounts of money on healthcare, little on public health, and is one of the wealthiest nations and has far worse outcomes.
