Curriculum Expectations (strand):
Number Sense and Numeration
solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of single-digit whole numbers, using a variety of strategies.
add and subtract money amounts to 10¢, using coin manipulatives and drawings.
Learning Goal: We are learning to count and add money amounts so that we can make purchases.
Required Supplies:
5-10 cups to act as "bowling pins"
An assortment of change
Dash, ipad, Blocklify or Blockly
Instructions or Directions:
Put different coins in cups and set the cups up as bowling pins
Students code dash to drive to hit the "cups". Students collect the coins from the cups that got knocked over.
Students record the money amount collected for each turn.
At the end of the game the team that has the most money wins.
Reflection Questions:
What strategy did you use to count your money? (Start with the largest coin first)
What strategy did you use to determine which cups you would try to knock over?
