Curriculum Expectations: Data Management & Probability
Learning Goal:
We are learning to pose and answer questions about collected data.
We are learning to describe the likelihood that an event will occur using mathematical language.
Required Supplies:
image of probability di code (see image on left)
colour tiles to represent each of the colours in your probability di
Dot
iPad with Blockly or Blocklify
square colour tiles to match the colours from the code
Instructions or Directions:
Ask students to look at the picture of the code above and discuss the following questions:
Which colours could appear? (are possible)
Which colours is most likely to appear?
Name a colour that is impossible to appear.
Now, have students run the code 20 times. Each time an event happens (a new colour appears), the students will choose a square tile of the same colour to gather the results.
Ask students to organize the information they have collected.
Have students take a picture of their organized data and share what they learned.
Reflection Questions:
What colour appeared the most?
What colour appeared the least?
Is there a colour that never appeared?
Did anything surprised you about the colours that appeared?
