Business

Another busy term of entrepreneurial activities and commercial thinking.

10X Challenge

During the week of trading in March, we saw 15 teams running many different business ideas and making profit: Community dog walkers, Penalty Shoot Out competitions, hand-made accessories, jewellery and a college-based 5-aside league. All Year 10 Business students participated creatively and professionally. Well done all of you who took part. I am sure there are lots of entrepreneurial ideas taking root in students for the summer.

National design winners

Leigh Academy 10X Challenge business Car Spa were announced the National Logo Winners 2023 and received £100 in gift certificates for their team! Well done Mary, Alvita, Lucy and Izzy!

Year 13 courses

We are excited to receive the results of BTEC Extended Certificate Business, where everyone put in excellent efforts for the final Unit 8 hand in, with some creative interview videos for their ideal job.

The assignment work was challenging throughout the course and we are proud of the work completed by all Business Extended Certificate BTEC students and wish them luck on their next journey.

IB Results were announced with very good results. Over half the class achieved equivalent B (Higher 5) or above. Congratulations to the IB Business Management students for their maintained effort over these 2 years.

Finally we are awaiting the final results for the Diploma in Financial Studies course. At present 80% of the students achieved C or above. The final results are released on the  17th July so this group will also have a clear idea of their successes going into the summer. Many of the group have plans to explore financial careers and there is a great deal of talent with our young adults.

Business competitions

Year 10 students have been creating marketing campaigns for new cereal ideas. Following the mock exams we started exploring Marketing terms through teamwork and design. Students completed their research and final product presentations are due the week before work experience starts.  Crunchy/Choco cereals are market leaders according to current student feedback.

Finally, it’s been a tough year for Leigh Academy traders. We started with £10,000 8 weeks ago, and the turbulent market has taken it’s toll on many of our portfolios. The top10 portfolios can be seen here, and congratulations go to Boo, Project X and Dog for turning a profit in this short time.
