Hearing Impairment Specialist Provision News

Last module for Deaf awareness week our HI SRP students produced a powerpoint that was focused on Deaf Awareness to show staff and students what it is like to be Deaf. This has been a huge success. This was even acknowledged by our recent  Ofsted inspection  ‘One pupil showed the lead inspector how he is raising awareness about deaf people.

The Year 9s have also supported the Year 6 transition morning  with our two new Deaf students starting in September.

The students in the Hearing impaired SRP are also starting to think about creating a name for their provision. So far the students like the initials the DC ‘Deaf Centre’ which seems to be the winning name! Watch this space.

Signs to Learn:

SEN Transition

The SEN champions have made a wonderful powerpoint presentation in supporting our new Year 7 cohort. They wanted to create a presentation that would inform our new students on the key information that they will need for September. The presentation has been shown multiple times and has been a huge success

The SEN champions also supported our SEN transition morning. They discussed how The Leigh Academy supports all students with SEN and also raising awareness of ASD.

Thank you and Farewell

Finally, I would like to thank all our students and staff for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year. We wish our Year 11’s every success on result days for their GCSE exams and on their new adventures.

We will be saying goodbye to Mrs Moore, our SRP SCLN lead. I would like to thank Mrs Moore for the dedication, commitment and the continuous support she has given to her students and also to the inclusion team. She will be sorely missed and we would like to wish her every success on her new adventures.

We are welcoming Miss Adewusi to the team who will be joining us in September as an SEN teacher with SCLN specialism.

We wish you all a wonderful summer and see you all in September.
