Curie

Goodbye, Class of 2023!

It has been a challenging and eventful five years for our Year 11 students, but after weeks of exams, we said a sad good bye to them on Friday 23rd June. Over these years, the students in Curie College have been a credit to the school and it has been inspirational to see the hard work they have put into their GCSEs. We enjoyed a morning of celebration with students signing shirts, writing heartfelt messages to each other and then donning their gowns for an emotional assembly. We are so proud of everything our students have achieved and are looking forward to many of them joining us in Attenborough College for their Post-16 studies. Whatever path our students are following next, we wish them all the best of luck as they pursue their dreams and ambitions.

Sports Day Superstars!

Our recent Sports Day events have been a huge success for a number of students in Curie College. It has been fantastic to see so many of our students participating and engaging so enthusiastically with athletics. We are proud of all of our students that took part, but a special mention needs to be given to the following students for significant achievements:

Imogen- Year 8- Winner of the 100m, 200m and 800m

Keira- Year 7- Winner of the 200m, 300m and 800m at College Winners' Sports Day

Adrian- Year 7- Winner of the Long Jump, High Jump and a qualifier for the District Sports relay team

Joshua- Year 9- Winner of the 100m and 200m at the College Winners' Sports Day

Sunshine Stella

Our wonderful Year 7 student, Stella, is on a mission to raise as much money as possible for an incredible charity called Rays of Sunshine.

Stella was born with a genetic disorder called NF1 and during her time at Great Ormond Street Hospital she often saw other children who had suffered from severe hair loss. Stella is now making the brave move to have 23 inches cut off her hair to donate to the Princesses Trust where it will be made into wigs for young people. The money she raises will then go to Rays of Sunshine, the charity that granted a wish for Stella herself to be a Vet and Guide Dog Trainer for the day.

You can read more about Stella's journey and her charity mission here as well as sponsoring her for her generous haircut.

We are so proud to have Stella as a member of Curie College. Her kindness, empathy and compassion are an inspiration. Good luck, Stella!

Welcome...

Ms Maxwell

From September, Ms Maxwell will be joining The Leigh Academy as the new Head of Curie College. She has a wealth of experience from a variety of schools, many of which are international. Ms Maxwell is really excited to be joining the college and getting to know as many students as possible in the new academic year. We are sure you will give her a very warm welcome!

Mr Williams

Module 6 has also seen the arrival of Mr Williams to Curie College as Assistant Head of College. Mr Williams is a longstanding member of The Leigh Academy community and joins Curie having been AHoC for Shakespeare previously. Mr Williams is committed to supporting our young people to achieve their potential and has already made a significant contribution to college life over the past few weeks. We are so pleased he will be remaining with us in the college in the new academic year and beyond.

A final goodbye.

It is with sadness that after a year of being the Head of Curie College, I will be saying goodbye to our students at the end of this year. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to support such motivated, resilient and respectful students in this time. I would like to say a big thank you to all the families I have worked with over the course of the year and wish Ms Maxwell the very best of luck as she takes on the leadership of the college from September.
