Coronation Celebrations

The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III

On Thursday 11th May, we recognised the height of Britishness by celebrating the coronation of King Charles III with a series of off timetable events through the day:

Royal Photographs

Students and staff alike were given the chance to have their photo taken with the new King. As you can see from the images, many took up the opportunity!

Students were also able to ride a London bus to nowhere!

Royal Fun Fair

Students had the best of times on the inflatables and fairground stalls including the 'Total Wipeout' ride which saw many of our young people knocked off their feet!

Safely of course!

Other games included the 'coconut shy', 'catch a duck' and the 'Test your Strength' challenge where students had to hit the pad as hard as they could to try and ring the bell.

This activity was dominated by the boys who were determined to prove they were the strongest!

A British celebration is nothing without traditional games and so it was that students took part in sack races, egg and spoon races three legged races and group skipping.

Royal Ice Cream

Every garden party (or school field) needs ice cream and we delivered ice cream on a massive scale, thanks to the reliable Mr Creamy, who spent hours whirling ice cream into cones for our young people.

I think it's safe to say that every cone was enjoyed.

Royal Dancing

To bring the celebrations to an end, students were treated to two very different lessons for two very different dancing styles - Morris dancing and Regency dancing. The dance teachers were excellent and the students learned a lot of moves, and the history behind the dances.
