Sometimes, things happen in the world that can be hard to cope with. Wars, climate change, health crises, and other issues, can be really challenging to comprehend and deal with.

On this page, we're going to explore some of these issues and help you to understand and cope with the difficulties that they can present to you. We will first look at resilience, before moving on to look at the specific challenges you might face.

Definition: War is a word we use to describe a state of armed conflict between different groups. This could be within a country (for example, different states that disagree with each other) or between different countries.

REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS

Definition: A refugee is someone who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. An asylum seeker is a person who has left their country and is seeking protection from persecution and serious human rights violations in another country, but who hasn't yet been legally recognized as a refugee and is waiting to receive a decision on their asylum claim. Seeking asylum is a human right.

Definition: The term 'climate change' refers to changes in the average conditions - for example, rainfall or temperature - in an area, or globally. When we talk about climate change, we are usually talking about the changes caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide created by the use of fossil fuels.

Definition: A health crisis or public health crisis is a difficult situation or complex health system that affects humans in one or more geographic areas, from a particular area to the entire planet. Health crises generally have significant impacts on community health, loss of life, and on the economy. They may result from disease, industrial processes, or poor policy.
