Restorative Practice
LIFE'S BETTER WITH RESPECT, EMPATHY AND RESTORATIVE PRACTICE
What is Restorative Practice (RP)?
Restorative Practice (RP) is a proactive process based around the power of communication. It looks at building resilience and connections, developing relationships and repairing harm . It is an approach based on a principle of how working with each other, rather than doing things to one another, can build a stronger community and working environment.
A restorative response to conflict enables those involved to give their view of the situation and come together to work out a resolution which meets everyone's needs. Those who have been harmed (or are in danger of being harmed) have the opportunity to convey how the situation has impacted them, and those who are responsible can take the time to acknowledge the impact they have made, explain their side of the situation and take steps to make it right.
In college, RP builds a sense of community, has a positive impact on students and staff, enhances the student experience, improves attendance, retention and reduces exclusions.
