The Science department at LAB continues to plan a robust set of online lessons to ensure all our pupils are progressing through the national curriculum, as well as consolidating key content for our Year 9's so they are well prepared for starting their GCSEs next year.
Team Science have produced over a dozen pieces to camera all linked to the scheme of work and each one comes with a dedicated quiz to maximise their impact. These are posted in turn on Google classrooms to maximise engagement and knowledge and skill retrieval
Year 7- Currently Yr 7 are learning about the Acids and Alkalis topic. This introduces the chemistry for a whole range of chemical reactions used in the home, medicine and industry. Pupils will learn about specific acids and alkalis and we've even put a home practical up to get chemistry into the kitchen.
Year 8- Our Yr 8 are working through a series of lessons all about health and lifestyle. Here, they are introduced to the scientific food 'groups' such as proteins and lipids. Then they go on to look at digestion at a molecular level and, finally, end on the effects of unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking on the body.
Year 9- All our Yr 9 pupils will be looking at the key concept 'New technology in Chemistry'. This topic looks at new innovations in Science, and their implications. This will encourage them to have greater appreciation for the scientific process as well as provide key background for GCSE content. They are specifically looking at nanotech and alternative fuels.
